Selected interns will travel to the capital of Phnom Penh, where they will work alongside Cambodian and international colleagues, assisting the government in one of its most crucial efforts. Cambodia Specific: The most important — and nonnegotiable — quality is the willingness and ability to live and work in a developing country.
Preferably applicants will have traveled overseas, and in the third world, but what they lack in such experience they could make up for in enthusiasm. Although not required, a background in civil law and international law would be helpful, as would a reading knowledge of French. Housing in Cambodia Room and board in Cambodia, especially in Phnom Penh, is available and affordable.
The easiest solution would be for students to stay in guesthouses or hotels. We can recommend several where colleagues and their teams stay for long-term visits while in the country.
There has also been a proliferation of serviced apartments, which may be comparable in price. A list of recommendations will be provided to interns prior to departure. Students will be working on both Nazi-looted art and antiquities looting matters with a combination of research particularly in the National Archives and Library of Congress and writing white papers and perhaps briefs supervised by a leading historian in the field, Marc Masurovsky. Interns will work on a broad range of issues, including cultural heritage cases mostly World War II cases , CLE program formation, and will have the possibility of writing for publication.
Interns can be located in New York or work remotely, but must be able to meet in New York at the request of the firm. These internships will be supervised by historian Marc Masurovsky, who has long been a leader in the field of Holocaust repatriation and restitution, as well as the broader fight to stop the plunder of cultural objects and sites.
He has researched the question of assets looted during the Holocaust and World War II since and has worked as an expert historian on a class-action lawsuit for Jewish claimants seeking restitution of lost accounts and other liquid assets from Swiss banks.

Upcoming Events. Printed copies will be available upon arrival in Siena. There is no need to print the materials before arriving in Siena. Materials are included in tuition and fees. A maximum of thirty students will be accepted for the Siena program.
We recommend applying early in order to secure your space in the program. Housing is at the Refugio residence of the Santa Chiara Graduate College, which is relatively close to the law faculty about 1km or 15 minute walk. The exact housing amount will be determined after January, on the basis of prevailing economic conditions and the exchange rates. This housing cost covers the full duration of the program.
A limited number of single rooms are available. While the rooms are well ventilated and the weather is usually cool at night, there is no air conditioning. Dormitory accommodations will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Students should not plan to leave Siena earlier than mid-afternoon on Friday, June Final exams will take place during regular class time on Friday, June 24, exams cannot be rescheduled. Students are responsible for all travel arrangements. We recommend researching ticket prices early from a few travel search engines to find the most competitive prices. Language Italian language skills are not required for program participation since courses will be taught in English and guest lectures by Italians will be translated into English when necessary.
However, in order to enhance the cultural immersion experience, students are encouraged to enroll in any optional Italian language classes available through the program, and to take advantage of opportunities in their home institution or elsewhere to acquire basic Italian language skills before arriving in Siena.
